    The Annual British Orthopaedic Association Congress was held in Manchester. 4 days of lectures, courses and seminars were attended covering a variety of topics from the management of the complex total knee replacement to controversies in foot and ankle surgery.

    Advanced Trauam and Life Support Course, Cheltenham. Cheltenham Hospital again invited Mr Carmichael to attend their annual Advanced Trauma and Life Support Course as a visiting instructor. This is a highly respected course designed to teach doctors the skills needed to save patients lives after major traumatic events.

Through the use of a fully secure electronic system we are able to implement quality control measures and monitor patient satisfaction with accuracy not possible with paper records. It is standard practice for joint replacement surgery to be monitored through the national joint registry but there is no equivalent system for foot and ankle surgery.

    The annual Leicester University Hospitals Foot Trauma course invited Mr Carmichael as a guest lecturer. Topics covered during the course included fractures of the Ankle, Calcaneus, Talus, mid foot injuries and compartment syndrome of the foot and ankle. A mixture of lectures and practical sessions was well received by delegates ranging from junior medical trainees to established orthopaedic consultants.
